U.S. Pledges 1 Billion Dollars in Assistance to Georgia

President Bush has announced that the U.S. applauds the actions taken by the European Union, including those by Slovakia, to bring humanitarian assistance to Georgia. As part of this international effort, the United States has committed $1 billion in additional economic assistance to meet Georgia’s humanitarian needs and to support its economic recovery. More than half of the U.S. funds will be made available in the near term and will support reconstruction efforts in Georgia, assist the Government of Georgia in leading the nation’s recovery, and meet ongoing humanitarian needs, including the resettlement of displaced families. Artwork Evoking Slovak-American Immigration on Display at Residence

A selection of artwork by American artists, including Walter Emerson Baum and Phil Fisher, is on permanent display at the home of Ambassador Vincent Obsitnik and Mrs. Annemarie Obsitnik in Bratislava as part of the ART in Embassies Program. (more)

Original Pittsburgh Agreement of 1918 on View to Slovak Public Until September

The Pittsburgh Agreement began its stay on June 9 at the Slovak National Museum in Bratislava , where the historic document will be on display as part of the Museum's “Ako sme žili?”/“How did we live?” exhibit of Slovakia in the 20th century until the end of September. (more)
